Jerry The Man I knew
I first met Jerry 59 years ago in a computer lab, where he became my mentor,
teaching me about computers and programming languages. His exceptional teaching
style and willingness to answer my questions after class helped us form a
strong friendship, filled with conversations, bowling, and fishing.
One day, Jerry mentioned that his computer lab instructor was leaving and
asked if I would be interested in taking over the teaching role. Initially,
I hesitated, citing my stutter as a reason to decline, but Jerry encouraged
me, insisting that it should not hold me back. With his support, I eventually
accepted the position, and despite some skepticism from the school president,
Jerry convinced the administration of my capabilities.
I thrived in that role, and when Jerry moved on to pursue opportunities outside
the university, I took over his classes. After graduation, I landed a job in
government computer systems, with Jerry once again affirming my abilities.
During this time, he introduced me to a very fine lady, who later became my
wife, and he stood by my side as my best man.
Throughout the years, Jerry consistently uplifted me with his confidence and
positivity, and I will deeply miss his friendship and encouraging spirit.
Rest in peace, Jerry; you will always be remembered fondly by your friend, Tom
